Actor and Trinamool Congress MLA Kanchan Mallick has sparked controversy amid the ongoing strike by doctors of government hospitals with the RG Kar case. Speaking at a Trinamool protest organized by Konnagar City on Sunday, Mallick questioned the actions of striking doctors, asking, "Aren't they receiving government salaries?" His comments come amid widespread protests demanding punishment for those involved in the RG Kar scandal.
Mallick, present at the protest, expressed his disapproval of the RG Kar incident, describing it as "very condemnable." He emphasized his desire for exemplary punishment for the culprits, noting that an accused has been arrested by Kolkata Police and that the case is now under investigation by the CBI and being heard in the Supreme Court. Mallick criticized the opposition for allegedly diverting the focus of the movement, asserting that the investigation should be left to the CBI.
The MLA also addressed the ongoing strike by doctors, questioning the impact on patients and urging medical professionals to consider their duty to the public. He highlighted that while everyone has the right to protest, certain actions should be weighed carefully, especially in critical services like healthcare.
Mallick concluded by pointing out the contradiction of striking doctors receiving government salaries, questioning whether they would still accept their bonuses.
